Aurora Borealis – Outside Reykjavík, Iceland

On the last night in Iceland, after three nights of rain and snow, we finally saw the Northern Lights! We had a two hour window where the cloud cover was breaking and our guide, Siggi was on a mission for us to catch the aurora borealis. He came to our hotel at 9:30 pm, checked the forecast and picked where he thought the clouds would break. We got lucky, the clouds broke and he found them for us, driving through the countryside outside of Reykjavík he tracked the lights down. It was an incredible sight and one that I want to experience again.

The next morning, we were off to the airport via the Blue Lagoon and soaked the hot spring before the flight home. I hope to get back to Iceland in the summer and the winter again. The sights were breath-taking.
